Families ACT!
P.O. Box 2152
Santa Barbara, CA 93120
Many people suffer from mood and thought disorders that drive them to self-medicate.
Too many of these people with co-occurring disorders end up in jail instead of in treatment. They suffer, their families suffer and we all pay a heavy price.
We strive to overcome the stigma, shame, and fear associated with mental illness, addiction, incarceration and suicide.
We support the recovery of the individual and the family as well the recovery of our systems of care.

Educate the public and community decision-makers about the tragic consequences of current policies which criminalize people with co-occurring disorders;
Support, serve and empower low and middle-income individuals and families dealing with mental health and substance use disorders;
Advocate for effective, compassionate and afford-able treatment options and residential treatment/rehab centers as alternatives to incarceration for the dually diagnosed;
... and prevent homeless-ness, overdose deaths and suicides.

We are part of a growing coalition of homeless, consumer and family advocates.
We seek to empower family advocates and the dually diagnosed themselves to sit at the table with criminal justice and mental health officials to address this very complex issue.
Together, we must find compassionate and effective solutions that serve both public safety
and personal recovery.
