Creative Musical Alternatives began 29 years ago as ‘The Musician’s Coffeehouse’ in Walnut Creek when musician, Jim Ocean, saw the need for an intimate venue where he and others could perform original live music. Kathy Dupler joined Jim’s business nearly a decade ago and Creative Musical Alternatives became a “mom and pop”. CMA currently produces in excess of 80 shows per year including free-to-the public summer concert series for cities and colleges and the “Community Concerts Series”, a ticketed indoor series that runs in the fall/winter at several venues throughout Contra Costa County. CMA also specializes in producing benefit concerts for non-profits and others. Jim and Kathy consider themselves cultural activists and their intent is to get people out of their couches, into their communities, to help build connection and a more vibrant sense of community life.

When not producing concerts, Jim and Kathy operate a small vacation retreat business from their home in Guerneville, where they strive to create for folks a restful reprieve from the stresses and pace of modern life. Check out their Russian River retreat at www.RiverSeaGetaways.com.
